Subject: Update from the RRC for Family Medicine
Dear Family Medicine Program Directors and Coordinators:
In the spirit of streamlining and simplifying aspects of the accreditation
process, core Family Medicine program directors will no longer be required
to complete the Competencies Assessment Form (CAF).
As many of you completing the new Program Information Form (PIF) for
your upcoming site visit know, the competencies are featured prominently
in the new PIF. So, although the CAF was required initially because the
PIF contained few, if any, questions dealing with the competencies, this
is no longer the case with the new PIF. Requiring the completion of the
CAF would be redundant and unnecessary. So, effective immediately, core
Family Medicine Program Directors do not need to complete the CAF when
they prepare their PIF for an upcoming site visit.
One additional update. As you may know, the ACGME is currently revising
the Common Requirements. The revisions are expected to be approved at
the February ACGME meeting and implementation date for the new Common
Requirements will probably be July 2007. ACGME anticipates having a Common
PIF that will contain all items in the Common Requirements available in
July as well. More information about the updated Common Requirements and
the new Common PIF will be coming very shortly.
This correspondence will be posted on the Family Medicine page on the
ACGME website, under the heading "RRC Updates." Past email communications
and updates can be found there as well.
Happy Holidays!
Sincerely yours,
Jerry Vasilias, PhD
