CHICAGO, Feb. 16, 2004 – Two new members have joined the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s Board of Directors. The new directors began their terms at the ACGME’s winter board meeting, held Feb. 9-10 in Rosemont, Ill.
Richard J. D. Pan, MD, MPH, nominated by the American Medical Association, is an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of California, Davis. He also serves on the AMA’s Council on Medical Education.
Donald Weaver, MD, appointed by the Dept. of Health and Human Services, is the federal government representative to the ACGME Board of Directors. Dr. Weaver is an as assistant surgeon general in the U.S. Public Health Service. He serves as the director of the National Health Services Corp for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Bureau of Primary Health Care.
The ACGME’s Residency Review Committee Residents Council, comprising resident representatives on the ACGME’s 27 residency review committees, elected Vishal Gala, MD, as the group’s chair. Dr. Gala is a neurosurgery resident at the University of Michigan Health System. He serves on the ACGME’s Residency Review Committee for Neurosurgery.
