CHICAGO, November 1, 2010 –The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has chosen three institutional leaders of graduate medical education as the 2011 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead Award honorees. The ACGME gives the Courage to Lead Award annually to three designated institutional officials (DIOs), who are the administrators responsible for all graduate medical education programs at a sponsoring institution. One award is given to a DIO in each of three categories: small hospital, large hospital and academic medical center. The award is named after Parker J. Palmer, PhD, author of The Courage to Teach and several other books on teaching and vocation.
The award recognizes DIOs who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and a commitment to creating an optimal environment for resident education. Faculty members, senior hospital leaders and residents submitted nominations, from among which the ACGME Awards Committee selected the awardees.
The following designated institutional officials are the 2011 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead awardees.
